Fruits & Flowers

Autumn Winter 2011

Inspired by Hong Kong gardens where East meets West…

For winter 2011 Romance Was Born have become fascinated by China - the Dynasties, temples, the Beijing opera, an ancient culture steeped like tea in traditional customs and folklore. Where the Chinese calendar follows the moon's cycle and is marked by many festivals - Festivals to celebrate star-crossed lovers who meet once a year across a bridge formed by magpies, lantern riddles, moon cakes, jade rabbits and dragon boats. As Confucius says symbolism and fortune can be found in the humblest of things – Fruit and Flowers

Romance Was Born’s collection Fruit and Flowers is like the random assortment found in a Chinese grocery or the sweet charm of all things chinglish, there is beauty and fun in the mix. For Fruit and Flowers Romance has chosen an auspicious colour palette of fuchsia pink, red, turquoise and black with golden temple accents and a glimpse of the rare clouded leopard.

As they say in Hong Kong, “don’t put away your winter clothes until you’ve eaten dragon boat dumplings.”
