it’s always happy days catching up with nell!we had a bit of a fashion lark with nell at her new powerhouse studio. it was a jam-packed day trying on outfits, hearing about the projects she has on the go atm, and of course, checking out all her cool art in the studio. we particularly loved that she pulled sustainable and recycled items from the current rwb wardrobe ... see the full shoot online. t'was another most excellent day with our girl nell.

Cheers nell xxx

thanks nell for letting us take over your new studio! what are you enjoying about this lovely powerhouse space?

I am so happy to have a space to work in. Anyone who knows me, knows how much I LOVE being in the studio. And I find being part of the Powerhouse community creatively enriching - there is so much going on here, including RWB dropping in!

we are always a bit in awe of how much you’ve got going on… tell us what you've been working on lately?

I just did a solo exhibition at STATION in Sydney called 'The WAY Home' which I made entirely in this space at the Powerhouse. I'm currently working on a jewellery collaboration with Meadowlark, a big public artwork, a few exhibitions and an ongoing community quilting project - all very exciting!

collaborating with you on oracle was a beautiful experience, the end result and showing at the state library was a magical fashion moment for us. what were your vibes from the collaboration?

I'm really proud of the one-off garments we made for the oracle, especially the 'ghost dress' and the hand-painted robe. I remember the show was incredibly theatrical. By the time the children's choir started singing 'The Never Ending Story' from the mezzanine of the state library at the end of show, about half the audience had tears in their eyes. Magical indeed!

the influence of music is evident in your art, what are you listening to at the moment?

Right now, I'm on a Jamaican Rocksteady/London Trojan Records binge. It has a consistently up vibe that never gets too frantic nor too sluggish. It's perfect studio music.
